An eco-friendly resort
In December of 2006, Jefferson County mapped this property with the designation of "Destination Resort" under the Oregon land use statutes. Regulations require at least 150 units of overnight accommodations to be provided on site. These units can take a number of forms including hotel rooms, cabins and others. Further, The Metolian must maintain a ratio of no more than 2.5 individual residential units to every one unit of overnight accommodation. Our plan is to stay at the lower range of allowed densities to retain a small community feel and reduce the impact of the development.
The Metolian's development strategy capitalizes on its outstanding location to target people who are interested in a resort experience that is oriented to a healthy, active, outdoor lifestyle that is environmentally sustainable and eco-friendly. This development concept takes advantage of the fast growing worldwide travel trend of ecotourism for those with active lifestyles. The existing resorts in Central Oregon are designed for and cater to a different market. The Metolian targets and services the underserved REI "consumer" and will completely redefine the Destination Resort concept.
